Getting rid of the token female – part 4 – Stuff mom never told you.

If you have never heard of the Howstuffworks.com network, you are missing out. They have loads and loads of articles about  an incredible variety of subject. But of more interest to me, they have many many podcasts. My favorites are Stuff you missed in history class and Stuff mom never told you (but I also listen to Stuff to blow your mind with an occasional excursion into the back catalog of Stuff from the b-side.)

Stuff Mom never told you has episodes on a variety of subjects, usually about health, sociology or gender issues. They have this great two parts issue on how women are portrayed in superhero comics.

You can listen to it here either as a stream or download the mp3 (you can also suscribe on iTunes)

Part 1 (the Women in refrigerators story)

Part 2 (famous female heroes, in particular WonderWoman)

And the original list of  female comic characters who met creepy deaths (not on the Howstuffworks network.  ) This is the list that started the interest in the subject. If you google Women in refrigerators you will find tons of articles and materials on the subject, in case you are curious about the issue.
